Carr, Gerald Paul 

Born Aug. 22, 1932, in Denver, Colo. US pilot and astronaut. Lieutenant colonel in the US Marine Corps.

Carr joined the marines in 1949. He graduated from the University of Southern California in 1954 with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. In 1962 he received a master of science degree from Princeton University in aeronautical engineering.

Carr became a member of the astronaut corps in 1966. From Nov. 16, 1973, to Feb. 8, 1974, flying with W. Pogue and E. Gibson, Carr served as commander of the third crew to visit the orbiting Skylab space station, which had been launched on May 14, 1973. Carr’s flight time was 84 days 1 hr 16 min; his two space walks lasted a total of 10 hr 28 min.
