a city in NE Spain: city walls and 14th-century cathedral; often besieged, in particular by the French (1809). Pop.: 81 220 (2003 est.)

Gerona 

a city in northeastern Spain, in Catalonia. Capital of the province of Gerona. Population, 56,000 (1973). A railroad junction, Gerona is situated at the point where the Oñar River empties into the Ter. Industries include wine-making, cork processing, and the production of textiles, chemicals, and electronic equipment.
