Getter Ion Pump

a vacuum pump in which chemically active gases are removed by sorption using getters, and inert gases are removed as a result of intensive ionization as ions using an electric field. Getter ion pumps may be used to produce vacuum levels as low as 10^–7 newtons per sq m, or 10^–9 mm of mercury.
