Qa'em Shahr

Qa'em Shahr (kä`ĕm shär), city (1991 pop. 123,684), Mazandaran prov., N Iran. Manufactures include textiles and food products; a thermal power plant is there. It is a road and rail transport center. The city was formerly called Shahi.

On 8 May 2007, the provincial court of appeal of Mazandaran denied the appeal of three women and one man who were arrested in 2005 in Ghaem Shahr and charged with "propagation on behalf of an organization which is anti-Islamic.
Dugal said Baha'is were arrested in July, August and September in a number of cities across Iran, including Mashhad, Karaj, Sari, Ghaem Shahr, and Babol Sat.
