On August 12, the waning gibbous Moon will rise before midnight and climb higher hour by hour.
Skywatching notes for this week: Tonight, look for the constellation Virgo's brightest star, Spica, to the upper right of the waxing gibbous moon.
Our charts plot it almost due S where a telescope shows it to be 46 arcsec wide when it stands close to the gibbous Moon on the 11th and 12th.
