In central TX, west of Austin; established Feb 23, 1848 from Bexar County. Name Origin: For Robert Addison Gillespie (?-1846), Texas Ranger killed during the Mexican War.

    Gillespie County, Texas A land that gets clothed by beautiful flowers every spring, Gillespie is a wonderful rural setting and a typical Texas County where one can find wide-open spaces, cattle ranches and old men wearing cowboy hats.
    The Farmer's Alliance in Gillespie County, Texas, resolved to ask that the fair's organizers "let the world of pleasure, leisure, and Style see the men and women in their jeans, faded callicoes, cotton-checks who by their labor and handicraft have made it possible for such an Exhibit.
    The Progressive Farmer announced today that a portion of the proceeds from admissions to the 2007 Idea House and Farmstead -- located in historic Gillespie County, Texas -- will benefit the Gillespie County Historical Society.
