Glarus Alps

Also found in: Wikipedia 0.01 sec.
Glarus Alps

a mountain range in the western Alps, in Switzerland, between the Reuss and Rhine rivers. The Glarus Alps extend southwest to northeast for about 80 km. The mountains are limited on the south by the valley of the Vorderrhein River, which runs along the axis of the range. Mount Tödi is the highest point of the range, reaching 3,620 m. The range is composed chiefly of Mesozoic-Cenozoic flysh and partially of limestone. The area receives more than 2,000 mm of precipitation annually. There are several glaciers in the region, including Clariden and Gris. The vegetation is primarily broadleaf and coniferous forest (beech, spruce, fir), changing to subalpine and alpine meadow above 1,800-1,900 m.
