Glière, Reinhold Moritzovich (rīn`hōlt mōrētsô`vĭch glēĕr`), 1875–1956, Russian composer. Among his pupils were Prokofiev, Miaskovsky, and Khachaturian. His compositions, generally nationalistic with romantic and impressionistic elements, show the influence of Russian folk melodies that he collected in Europe and Asia. His best-known works are the ballet The Red Poppy (1927) and his Third Symphony (Ilya Mourometz, 1909–11). How to thank TFD for its existence?
