Otsego Lake

Otsego Lake (ŏtsē`gō), c.9 mi (14.5 km) long, E central N.Y., SE of Utica, in a resort region. A branch of the Susquehanna River issues from its southern end at Cooperstown. The lake is the Glimmerglass of James Fenimore Cooper Cooper, James Fenimore, 1789–1851, American novelist, b. Burlington, N.J. He was the first important American writer to draw on the subjects and landscape of his native land in order to create a vivid myth of frontier life.

WON A GIG Eugene native and South Eugene High School grad Jacqueline Noparstak was recently selected for one of 30 spots in the prestigious Glimmerglass Opera Young American Artists Program.
Glimmerglass State Park offers a spectacular view of the Otsego Lake.
The composer's first full-length stage work created a fine flurry of excitement at its Sadler's Wells premiere in 1965 and on stages throughout Europe and even in New York (Juilliard), but the thrill was short-lived, and the opera languished for decades until the Glimmerglass Opera revival of 2004, recorded by Chandos and subsequently transferred to New York City Opera.
