Glinkov, Rodion Andreianovich
Born 1729; died 1789. Russian mechanic. In his spinning factory in Serpeisk (in present-day Kaluga Oblast), Glinkov in 1760 was the first to build carding and multispindled flax-spinning machines, driven by water-wheels. Glinkov’s carding machine, operated by two workers, replaced the labor of 30 people. His spinning machine had 30 spindles with bobbins, which turned at what was for the period a high speed (1,260 rpm). The machine had a mechanical rewinder, making use of the principle of continuous spinning. The machine increased labor productivity five times. REFERENCEHromienkov, N. A. “Rodion Glinkov—russkii samorodok.” Voprosy archivovedeniia, 1964, issue 1.Want to thank TFD for its existence?
