Glotov, Stepan

Year of birth unknown; died 1769 (?). Russian seafarer and discoverer of the Aleutian Islands.

In 1759, Glotov made his way eastward from Mednyi Island and reached Umnak Island; and between 1759 and 1762 he discovered other islands in the Fox Islands. During 1762-66 he completed another voyage from Kamchatka to the Aleutian Islands and approached the northwestern coast of America. Glotov landed on Kodiak Island in 1763 and collected information on its inhabitants.
