Glueck, Sheldon (1897–1980) criminologist; born in Warsaw, Poland. Emigrating to America at the age of six, he served as an ordnance sergeant in the American Expeditionary forces (World War I) and became the first Roscoe Pound professor of law at Harvard (1950). A pioneer in the study of crime and juvenile delinquency, he and his wife, Eleonor Touroff Glueck, wrote scores of articles and books on criminal law and prison practices.
