On southeastern Atlantic coast of GA; original county; organized Feb 5, 1777 (prior to statehood) from Saint David and Saint Patrick parishes. Name Origin: For John Glynn (1722-79), a pro-colonist member of the British Parliament.

Area (sq mi): 585.17 (land 422.37; water 162.80). Pop per sq mi: 170.20.
Pop 2005: 71,874. State rank: 30. Pop change: 2000-20005 6.40%; 1990-2000 8.10%. Pop 2000: 67,568 (White 68.90%; Black or African American 26.50%; Hispanic or Latino 3.00%; Asian 0.60%; Other 2.30%). Foreign born: 3.30%. Median age: 37.90.
