Gnatiuk, Dmitrii Mikhailovich
Born Mar. 28, 1925, in the village of Starosel’e, in present-day Kitman’ Raion, Chernovtsy Oblast. Soviet Ukrainian singer (baritone). People’s Artist of the USSR (1960). Member of the CPSU since 1962. Gnatiuk graduated in 1951 from I. S. Patorzhinskii’s class at the Kiev Conservatory and became a soloist in the Kiev Opera and Ballet Theater. His roles include Ostap and Mykola (Lysenko’s Taras Bulba and Natalka-Poltavka), Petrucchio (Shebalin’s Taming of the Shrew), Mazeppa and Onegin (Tchaikovsky’s Mazeppa and Eugene Onegin), the Demon (Rubinstein’s The Demon), Figaro (Rossini’s The Barber of Seville), and Rigoletto (Verdi’s Rigoletto). He is also a concert singer and has performed abroad. Gnatiuk was awarded the Lenin Komsomol Prize (1967), the Order of Lenin, and various medals. REFERENCEStefanovich, M. P.
