Born Aug. 27. 1827, in Clichy, France; died Nov. 9, 1890, in Brussels. French aeronaut.

Godard carried out more than 2,500 balloon flights in France and abroad. In 1863 he built the largest balloon up to that time (14,000 cu m). In 1870–71 during the siege of Paris he organized an aerial postal service using aerostats.
