Gold, Thomas

Gold, Thomas (1920–  ) astronomer; born in Vienna, Austria. He served in the British Admiralty (1942–46) and proposed the steady state theory of cosmology (with Bondi and Hoyle) before coming to Harvard College in 1956. At Cornell University (1959–81), he directed the Center for Radio Physics and Space Research, studied pulsars, and named the magnetosphere (1959).
