Golden Mirror, The
a collection of medieval morality tales; first translated from Polish into Russian in abridged form in Moscow in 1677. The collection was supplemented by the Russian tale of Timotheus of Vladimir. The Polish original of the collection was a 1605 translation from a Latin anthology. The Golden Mirror included material from the literature of hagiography, apocrypha, and legend and from secular literature in the form of tales and anecdotes of eastern Byzantine and Western European origin. The themes of The Golden Mirror were reflected in cheap popular prints, ecclesiastical verse, legends, and the Sinodika. REFERENCEDerzhavina, O. A. “Velikoe Zertsalo” i ego sud’ba na russkoi pochve.
