Goldmark, Peter

Goldmark, Peter (Carl) (1906–77) electrical engineer, inventor; born in Budapest, Hungary. After studies at the universities of Vienna and Berlin, he immigrated to the U.S.A. in 1933 and went to work in the laboratories of CBS. By 1940 he had developed the first practical color television transmission system. He later built a camera that, carried aboard a lunar orbiting vehicle, transmitted very high definition pictures of the moon's surface back to earth.
