Golovkina, Sof’ia Nikolaevna
Born Sept. 30 (Oct. 13), 1915, in Moscow. Soviet ballerina and teacher. People’s Artist of the USSR (1973). Member of the CPSU since 1942. In 1933, Golovkina graduated from the Moscow Choreographic School, where she was a pupil of A. I. Chekrygin. In the same year she was accepted into the ballet company of the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, where she performed until 1959. Her parts included Odette-Odile in Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, the title role in Glazunov’s Raymonda, Diane Mireille in Asaf ev’s The Flames of Paris (State Prize of the USSR, 1947), and Swanilda in Delibes’s Coppélia. Since 1960, Golovkina has been director of the Moscow Choreographic School, where she continues to teach. She has been awarded four orders and several medals. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
