short fuse [′shȯrt ′fyüz]
(engineering) Any fuse that is cut too short. The practice of firing a blast, the fuse on the primer of which is not sufficiently long to reach from the top of the charge to the collar of the borehole; the primer, with fuse attached, is dropped into the charge while burning.
