Goodrich, Leland Matthew, 1899–1990, American political scientist, b. Lewiston, Maine, grad. Bowdoin College, 1920, and Harvard (M.A., 1921; Ph.D., 1925). He taught political science at Brown Univ. (1922–23, 1926–50) and was professor of international organization and administration at Columbia Univ. from 1950 until 1967, when he became emeritus professor of international relations. Goodrich was director of the World Peace Foundation from 1942 to 1946 and a member of the secretariat at the founding conference of the United Nations at San Francisco in 1945. His works, many of them collaborations, include Charter of the United Nations: Commentary and Documents (1946, with Edvard Hambro; 3d ed. 1969), The United Nations and the Maintenance of International Peace and Security (1955, with Anne Simons), Korea: A Study of U.S. Policy in the United Nations (1956), The United Nations (1959), and The United Nations in a Changing World (1974). He edited Documents on American Foreign Relations, Vol. IV (1942, with S. S. Jones and Denys Myers) and Vol. V–VII (1945, with M. J. Carroll).
