Goodwin, William Watson (1831–1921) classicist; born in Concord, Mass. He was educated at Harvard (B.A. 1851) and then took his Ph.D. at the University of Gottingen, Germany (1855). He taught at Harvard (1856–1901) and was the first director of the American School of Classical Studies in Athens (1882–83). His publications include Syntax of Moods and Tenses of Greek Verb (1878) and Greek Grammar (1892), both frequently reprinted and still used today. How to thank TFD for its existence?
