Gordon, George Angier

Gordon, George Angier (1853–1929) Protestant clergyman, author; born in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. An estate overseer's son, he worked several manual trades before emigrating to America in 1871. He graduated from Bangor Theological Seminary, then from Harvard (1881). From 1884 until his death he was pastor of Old South Church, Boston. His The Christ of Today (1895) expressed a liberal theological doctrine, and he became an important champion of religious freedom.
