Goren, Charles (Henry) (1901–91) bridge player, author; born in Philadelphia. Abandoning his law practice for bridge in 1936, he transformed the game by inventing the point-count valuation and Standard American bidding style. Known as "Mr. Bridge," he led master point winners in 1944–62, authored more than a dozen books, and wrote a widely syndicated daily newspaper column. How to thank TFD for its existence?
