Name Origin: For Goshen Hole Valley, which was probably named for the Biblical Egyptian home of the Israelites before the Exodus; generally interpreted as 'land of abundance or plenty.' Area (sq mi): 2232.16 (land 2225.32; water 6.84). Pop per sq mi: 5.50. Pop 2005: 12,243. State rank: 14. Pop change: 2000-20005 -2.40%; 1990-2000 1.30%. Pop 2000: 12,538 (White 89.10%; Black or African American 0.20%; Hispanic or Latino 8.80%; Asian 0.20%; Other 5.80%). Foreign born: 1.90%. Median age: 40.00. Income 2000: per capita $15,965; median household $32,228; Pop below poverty level: 13.90%. *Personal per capita income 2000-2003: $22,561-$25,786. Unemployment 2004: 4.30%. Change from 2000: 0.70%.
