Delchev, Gotse Nikolov
Born Jan. 23, 1872; died May 4, 1903, in the village of Banitsa, district of the city of Serrai. Ideologist and organizer of the national liberation movement in Macedonia. The son of an artisan. Delchev studied at the Gymnasium at Salonika and at a military college in Sofia. Because of his contacts with Bulgarian Social Democrats he was expelled from the military college. From 1894 he worked as a teacher. He became one of the leaders of the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization (IMRO) and from 1896 to 1902 was a member of its central committee and one of its representatives abroad. He was one of the authors of the statutes of the organization and was the leader of the revolutionary-democratic wing of IMRO. He played an active part in the preparation of the Ilinden revolt of 1903 and died in a clash with a Turkish detachment. WORKSPis’ma i drugi materiali. Sofia, 1967.REFERENCESK’osev, D.
