Governor Nelson State Park Location: On Lake Mendota. Facilities: Picnic areas, hiking and ski trails (11 miles), concessions, shoreline, showers, boat launch, scenic vista (é). Activities: Boating, canoeing, fishing, ice fishing, swimming, hiking, cross-country skiing, naturalist programs (seasonal). Special Features: Located on Lake Mendota, within sight of the state capitol building. Park includes several effigy mounds, the most striking being a 358-foot panther-shaped mound.
