Govorukhin, Orest Makarovich
Born Dec. 10 (22), 1864, in the stanitsa (large Cossack village) of Ust’-Khoperskaia, present-day Volgograd Oblast; year of death unknown. Russian revolutionary. Born into a cossack family. When Govorukhin was a student in the physics and mathematics department of the University of St. Petersburg (1886-87), he joined the revolutionary Don and Kuban’ Circle and other student organizations; he was linked with D. Bla-goev’s group. Arrested on Apr. 5, 1886, Govorukhin was released under police surveillance on April 22. He collaborated with the group of A. I. Ul’ianov and P. Ia. Shevyrev in planning the March 1887 attempt on the life of Alexander III. In late February 1887 he fled from the police and emigrated to Switzerland. Govorukhin was one of the cofounders of the Socialist Literary Fund in Zürich, and worked at the printing press of the Liberation of Labor group in Geneva.
