Grace, Virginia (Randolph) (1901–94) archaeologist; born in Plainfield, N.J. Her life work on stamped amphora handles evolved from her Ph.D. thesis (Bryn Mawr, 1934) on the same topic. She catalogued more than 150,000 stamped amphora handles from throughout the Greek world, providing an invaluable chronology that was useful in archaeological dating and tracing ancient trade routes.
