The expressway will cater to traffic throughout the Muscat Capital Area from Al Qurm to Al Naseem, with the grade-separated interchanges providing links between the expressway and the areas of Rabiat Al Qurm, Madinat Al Ilam, Madinat AEoe1/4aoSultan Qaboos, Al Khuwair, Bausher, Ghala, Al Ansab, Airport Heights, the future as well as the existing Muscat International Airport interchanges, Al Rusayl, Nizwa Road, Al Khoud, Halban and Al Naseem.
Operating on all new, high-quality, fully grade-separated tracks largely within the I-15 right of way between Las Vegas and Victorville, DesertXpress will be the nation's first dedicated, interstate passenger-only electric high-speed rail system.
The city prefers the "flyover" option--a grade-separated roadway that would take parts of the bypass 26 feet above other lanes of travel--and would keep traffic flowing.
