In north-central KS, northwest of Hays; organized Feb 26, 1867 from Rooks County. Name Origin: For Capt. John L. Graham (?-1863), a KS infantry officer killed at Chickamauga.

On the southwestern border of NC, southwest of Asheville; organized Jan 30, 1872 from Cherokee County. Name Origin: For William Alexander Graham (1804-75), U.S. senator from NC (1840-43), governor (1845-49), and U.S. secretary of the navy (1850-52).
