Gramme, Zénobe Théophile

Born Apr. 4, 1826, in Jehay-Bodegnée, Belgium; died Jan. 20, 1901, in Bois-Colombes, France. Belgian electrical engineer.

Gramme worked in France. In 1869 he patented a design of a ring armature that allowed the reception of electromotive force and current of constant direction. In 1870 he organized the Society for Production of Gramme’s Magneto-electrical Machines, which manufactured electrical machines of various types with a ring armature. In 1871 he presented the first dynamo to the Academy of Sciences in Paris.
