Grampian Mountains

the highest mountains in Great Britain. Their maximum altitude is 1,343 m, at the mountain of Ben Nevis. The range is located in Scotland, between the faultblock valley of Glen More to the north and the Scottish Lowlands to the south. They have a length of about 250 km. The Grampians are composed of crystalline and metamorphic rock. Their appearance is one of gently rolling peaks, dissected by narrow river valleys and lake basins situated in tectonic fractures. Landforms resulting from glacial action are apparent everywhere. The climate is mild and oceanic, with cool summers; precipitation is greater than 1,000 mm per year. There are peat bogs, heather fields, and mountain meadows.
