Established: 1992.
Location: 7 miles east of Pascagoula, Mississippi, and 20 miles west of Mobile, Alabama.
Facilities: Viewing sites.
Activities: Boating, canoeing, fishing, hunting, educational programs.
Special Features: The refuge's coastal marshes contribute essential food and cover for many varieties of marine animals, including spotted seatrout, red drum, flounder, blue crab, and shrimp.
Habitats: 14,000 acres of tidal marsh and pine savanna. Proposed acquisition will encompass 32,000 acres.
Access: Year round during daylight hours.
Wild life: Gopher tortoise (threatened), bald eagle (threatened), red-cockaded woodpecker (endangered), brown pelican (endangered).

Grand Bay National Wildlife Refuge, Mississippi and Alabama 9.
The other grant will be awarded to the Mississippi Chapter of The Nature Conservancy to help restore more than 500 acres of wet pine savanna habitat on the Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge and the Grand Bay National Wildlife Refuge.
