Grand Gulf State Park Location: 6 miles west of Thayer, off Highway W in Oregon County. Facilities: Picnic sites, hiking trails, scenic overlooks. Activities: Hiking, picnicking. Special Features: Often referred to as Missouri's "Little Grand Canyon," Grand Gulf was created when the ceiling of a giant cave collapsed. A section of remaining roof forms one of the largest natural bridges in Missouri, spanning 200 feet with an opening 75 feet high and 50 feet wide. The gulf winds for a mile through vertical walls as high as 130 feet. Boardwalks allow visitors to descend partway into the chasm.
