Grange, Harold

Grange, (Harold Edward) “Red” (1903–91) football player; born in Forksville, Pa. His many spectacular runs made him a three-time All-America halfback at the University of Illinois (1923–25) and the most famous football player of his time. Against the University of Michigan in 1924, he scored four touchdowns in the first 12 minutes. He turned professional with the Chicago Bears in 1925 after his last college game and drew record crowds to the National Football League.
