Established: Authorized on August 25, 1972. Location: At the north end of the town of Deer Lodge, Montana, off I-90. Deer Lodge is 40 miles north of Butte and 80 miles southeast of Missoula. Facilities: Rest rooms (é), visitor center (é), museum/exhibit, self-guided tour/trail. Entrance fee required. Activities: Guided tour. Special Features: Once the headquarters of a 10-million-acre, 19th-century cattle empire, the site preserves more than 80 structures and many historic artifacts associated with its operation, representing more than 125 years of ranching heritage.
