Graur, Alexandru

 

Born 1900. Rumanian linguist. Academician of the Rumanian Academy (1948).

Graur is a specialist in Romance languages and general linguistics. He is a professor at Bucharest University. His major works include Research in the Field of the Basic Lexical Stock of the Rumanian Language (1954), Studies in General Linguistics (1955), and Rumanian Etymology (1963). He has received the State Prize of the Rumanian Socialist Republic.
