Gray, Harry (Jack)

(1919–  ) industrialist; born in Milledgeville Crossroads, Ga. After an early career in sales, he worked for Litton Industries (1956–71). As president, CEO, and chairman (1971–86) he transformed United Aircraft into United Technologies, a conglomerate of companies poised to take advantage of massive research and development expenditures, particularly in microelectronics. He was later chairman and CEO of American Medical Holdings, Dallas, Texas.

It was thanks to him that international singing star Shirley Bassey had her first big break and, as well as appearing on the same bill as her, he has trod the boards alongside many old music hall stars such as Harry Secombe,Vic Oliver, Diana Dors, Cilla Black, Billy Cotton, 'Monsewer' Eddie Gray, Harry Worth, Cannon & Ball and even Frank Bruno.
