On the southwestern border of VA, east of Bristol, TN; organized Nov 7, 1792 from Wythe County. Name Origin: For Col. William Grayson (1736/40-90), an officer in the Revolutionary War, member of the Continental Congress (1785-87), and U.S. senator from VA (1789-90).
