Great Neck

Great Neck, village (1990 pop. 8,745), Nassau co., SE N.Y., on the north shore of Long Island, a primarily residential suburb of New York City; settled c.1634, inc. 1921. It has diverse light and high-technology industries. The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy is in nearby Kings Point. F. Scott Fitzgerald Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald, 1900–1947, b. Montgomery, Ala., was also a writer. She was intermittently confined to sanatoriums after 1930 for schizophrenia, but still managed to publish short stories and a novel, Save Me the Waltz (1932, repr. 1974).
