Greatbatch, Wilson (1919– ) electrical engineer, inventor; born in Buffalo, N.Y. A World War II veteran, he earned a degree in electrical engineering from Cornell University in 1950 and went on to invent the first implantable cardiac pacemaker. He subsequently developed advanced pacemakers and pacemaker power sources. His Greatbatch Enterprises manufactures the majority of the world's pacemaker batteries. |
