The spines of the fins and of the gill cover have poison glands; the sting is very painful and dangerous to humans. The greater weever burrows in the sand and waits for small fish and crustaceans. It is found in the coastal waters of the Black and Mediterranean seas and also along the western coast of Europe. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
