greenbottle fly: see blowfly blowfly, name for flies of the family Calliphoridae. Blowflies are about the same size as, and resemble, the housefly; because they are usually metallic blue or green they are also called bluebottle or greenbottle flies.

The team from Swansea University in south Wales has created Seraticin, a drug made from the secretions of green bottle fly larvae.
They used sterile "free-range" larvae from the green bottle fly Lucilia Sericata, which were applied between two and eight times for four days at a time.
