Greene, Leonard Michael (1918– ) inventor; born in New York City. His airplane stall warning device, developed for the Grumman Aircraft Company during World War II, has been called as important a lifesaving device as the parachute. He invented and manufactured other flight safety instruments. In 1974 he founded the Institute for Socioeconomic Studies in White Plains, N.Y. He published Free Enterprise without Poverty in 1981.
