Gregory, Samuel (1813–72) medical educator; born in Guilford, Vt. An advocate of medical education for women, he founded the Boston Female Medical School (1848), which merged with Boston University School of Medicine (1874), becoming one of the first coeducational schools in the world. As a doctor, he attacked the use of microscopes, thermometers, and test tubes.
