Gregory, Waylande

Gregory, Waylande (Desantis) (1905–71) ceramist; born in Baxter Springs, Kans. He studied with sculptor Lorado Taft and began working in bronze before he went to work at the Cowan Pottery (near Cleveland) and shifted to ceramics. He is known for his art deco figurines and his monumental ceramic figures (1938) for which he developed the technique of inner modeling.
