Il’inskii, Grigorii Andreevich
Born Mar. 11 (23), 1876; died 1937. Soviet philologist and Slavist; corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1921). Born in St. Petersburg. Professor at the Universities of Nezhin (1909), Iur’ev (Tartu; 1916), Saratov (1920), and Moscow (1927). Specialist in the comparative grammar of Slavic and proto-Slavic languages. Il’inskii studied and published important written records of the Slavs (Documents of the Bulgarian Kings, 1911, and Slep-chensk Apostle of the 12th Century, 1911). He dealt with the origin and history of Slavic literature (An Attempt at a Systematic Cyril-Methodius Bibliography, 1934). Il’inskii published etymological studies, many of which are unique. He was a member of the Academies of Sciences of Bulgaria (1929) and Poland (1930). WORKSPraslavianskaia grammatika.
