Grosman, Tatyana

Grosman, Tatyana (b. Aguschewitsch) (1904–82) printmaker; born in Ekaterinburg, Siberia, Russia. She studied at the Dresden Academy of Arts and Crafts, Germany, and settled in France (1931). She and her husband, Maurice, escaped from the Nazis by walking across the Pyrenees to Italy; from there they emigrated to New York City (1943). She founded the Universal Limited Art Editions (ULAE) workshop in East Islip, Long Island (1957), and encouraged such famous New York school artists as Larry Rivers, Jasper Johns, Grace Hartigan, Helen Frankenthaler, Jim Dine and Robert Motherwell to take up printmaking.
