growler [′grau̇l·ər]
(electricity)
An electromagnetic device consisting essentially of two field poles arranged as in a motor, used for locating short-circuited coils in the armature of a generator or motor and for magnetizing or demagnetizing objects; a growling noise indicates a short-circuited coil.
(oceanography)
A small piece of floating sea ice, usually a fragment of an iceberg or floeberg; it floats low in the water, and its surface often is heavily pitted; it often appears greenish in color. Also known as bergy-bit.
